How Bec Company Was Founded

We all need each other now more than ever. Prices are rising, kindness is dropping and our planet is suffering.

Years ago there was a consignment shop operating in my little town run by a wonderful woman. Just a teen and so envious of the business, I was very inquisitive with questions and conversation for her. Always observing how things were done, thinking to myself how fun would it be to handle clothes all day.

Fast forward 7 years to a global pandemic. As I constantly heard people discussing these difficult times, how hard it is to make payments, how first time home buyers may never be able to afford a home or those who've lost their jobs in the midst of all this chaos. I stood there wishing there was some way I could help everyone.

What better time to launch this business I’d had in the back of my head for so long? Providing an affordable alternative would be helping. Combining that with the convenience of online shopping would be helping. I began picking up on my old business plan drafted years ago.

Once I got into the Industry Research section, what I uncovered was so incredibly alarming. The fashion industry is the second largest polluting industry globally, second to the oil industry. The equivalent of one garbage truck of clothing is dumped into landfill every second. It is the second largest consumer of the world’s water supply and produces 10% of all of humanity's carbon emissions.

Basically, purchasing new clothes is extremely detrimental to our planet’s health. After uncovering the fact of just how harmful the industry is to our environment, I wondered, how do we not know about this? It HAS to change. I HAD to launch this business. I had to do my part to help. That’s how Bec Company was founded and those are the values we will forever hold strong.
